Having lived and worked in London for over 20 years, Lesley Shaw is now based in York. Since leaving University she has produced art for exhibition and commission, including the BBC, the Mall Galleries in London, and just this year her work was shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
Life drawing is the source of all Lesley’s work. With a background in fashion and illustration, she strives to capture the beauty and simplicity of the form, looking at the shape and line the body takes. She is influenced by the theatrical Parisian lithographs of the 1890’s through to the iconic graphic posters and fashion illustrations of the 1930’s and 40’s.
Having worked in various mediums, Lesley has made a recent return to traditional print making techniques, in particular lino and drypoint. The artist feels these mediums lend themselves well to the ‘look’ she aims to achieve with her own work.
